Collage by Sasha Gaynor / Poem by Madi King
My Beloved and I intertwine like serpents
Coiling in the dirt
Or under a tree
Slithering spines sharing secrets and sunbeams
Hoping not to be seen
By Those who do not understand
The Pleasures
Of having serpents for bones
Beloved of mine,
Believed to be the bestower of Sin
Scales writhing beneath your skin
Misunderstood, I ask,
Where have you been?
Did God really say,
‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden?’
